Romance

Have you ever felt an emotional feeling of love? Or strong desire/attraction towards another person? That’s Romance! Behaviours and feelings that result in expressions of emotion between two people.

Historically the word ‘romance’ derives from the French language, where it indicated a verse narrative. However, it was originally of Latin origin, Romanicus, which meant Roman style. The word later also developed other meanings throughout Europe in Spanish and Italian, translating to ‘Passionate’ and ‘Adventurous’.

Adolescence & Romance

Adolescences can learn so much from romantic relationships. You begin to understand how to communicate, empathise and more about your emotions and identity. These lessons help to create a foundation for long-term adult relationships and also growth and happiness during teenage years.

During these years, having a boyfriend or girlfriend can possibly boost your confidence, especially when it’s healthy and based on good communication, this will lead to more happiness, as young people value the trust, support and closeness that they experience in these romantic relationships.

Relationships of course have there down sides too. Therefore, when adolescence enter the world of relationships, it is inevitable that their sense of may be emotional vulnerability.  Inequality and poor treatment in a relationship could lead to depression. This could lead to experiencing break ups, which may be harder for sensitive young people as it can bring to insecurities and self-doubt and depression.

Celebrity Adolescence First Love Experience

Romantic relationships begin as a mystery, you may start to wonder what’s this weird feeling deep in my stomach? How did I get this person to like me? How do I know if they really like me? What shall I do? Why do my parents not allow me to spend much time with my boyfriend/girlfriend? There are so many questions and mysteries that come with being an adolescence and a part of growing up.

The thought that you will never forget your first relationship may sound clichĂ© but it’s true! Even if it doesn’t end up being your last relationship, you will learn so much not only about yourself but also what exact qualities you look for in a potential partner.

Your experience can be embarrassing and awkward, but none of us are immune not even celebrities. No matter how much you might want to pretend it never happened, it happened... and it probably helped you become who you are today, even just a little bit. Many celebrities have been very open about their adolescence first love/heart break experiences. Here are a few….

Zac Efron

’I had a crush on my babysitter growing up. I think everybody does at one point. She was amazing. Her name was Brooke, she was in college, she was about to be in college. I was in third grade, and I think she was working at the rec center where my parents sent me for daycare ... I was there a lot. I fell in love with her the first time I saw her.’’

Beyoncé

‘’People would be surprised as to the lack of experiences I've had. When I was 12, 13 I had my first boyfriend, and he was my boyfriend till I was 17. At that age, that was a long time. I've always been very loyal and a little more mature.’’

Selena Gomez

‘’I was 18 years old, and it was my first love. The older I get, I’m guarding certain things more. After being put through the scrutiny, I understand what it is. When you’re young and you’re being told so many different things … it almost felt like all we had was each other, like the world was against us, in a way. It was really weird, but it was incredible. I would never take it back in a million years. You live and you learn, you know?

Emma Stone

‘’I was crawling on the floor. I remember throwing up. Like, within the hour. I remember being on the floor . . . I have never felt anything quite like that. It was so visceral. It's like someone has killed you and you have to live through it and watch it happen . . . It was awful.’’

Many, if not most authors derive ideas from life’s experiences, and Andrew Segal is no exception. Working in The Golden Lion, a rough docklands pub, for pin money during University hols decades ago, gave Andrew some interesting incites into life’s other side.

Run by an educated middle class widow and her son, Andrew had pointed out to him one of the regulars,a prostitute who, charging, even for those days, the comparatively nominal sum of £1.00 per client, had cause to complain to the publican if she serviced fewer than 20 customers a night. The daughter of the pub’s barrel man, a muscled Caribbean gentleman, was expecting her second child at age just 16.

From this experience emerged two short stories, Pretty Boy and Contract Killer. A climber’s description of a colleague’s death on Everest resulted in another short story, Death Zone. Casual racism produced, The Uninvited Guest. Crossfire looks at the question of transsexualism.
The humiliation an individual will accept in order to climb out of the pit of poverty resulted in Minor Aberrations.

On the books front, Andrew, a licenced insolvency practitioner, wrote, The Hamilton Conspiracy, based on a perceived insurance fraud and the loss of millions in a Bermuda based company.
